In 1953, at the beginning of the television era, the Leenaars family started a company specialized in production of TV and FM antenna's. For many decades, Pyros Dutch Antennaworks invented and produced all kinds of television systems for both private and industry. Due to the increasing popularity of cable television around 1990, the demand for antennas decreased rapidly. It became time to start up something completely different. For parts of the Antenna business we opened a new company under ALFATRON B.V. The Netherlands. (www.alfatron.nl)

Antec started in 1984 as a split off from Pyros. This new company started working on the development of highly advanced driving systems for electric bicycles, at a time when nobody had ever heard of electric bicycles yet.  The expectation was that in the near future, because of increasing traffic problems, the demand for alternative transportation would increase. Also environment is getting more and more an important issue. High polution of industries and combustion in traffic and households was getting worse. We are consuming all fossil fuels in a short period. Electric mobility can help to create a cleaner society.

So Antec has its roots in electronics. The precedence in knowledge which Antec has in the field of electronics and electric systems, nowadays results in highly advanced and efficient driving systems and high quality electric bicycles.
